A ministry in Austin, TX

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,”

Jesus, in Matthew 25:35 (NIV)

Come hungry.Leave fed.

Mt. 25:35 Ministry is based in Austin, TX, and built around a table where God’s love is shared through food.

Our story

A safe place to be in God’s presence.

We cook for people who are hungry, and we set a table where anyone can sit down in God’s presence. A hot meal, a seat, a welcome with no conditions. That is the most practical way we know to share God’s love.

Meals are free. Nobody has to pray, attend worship, give, or share their story to eat.

Why a goat and a sheep

In Matthew 25, Jesus separates the sheep from the goats, and the ones he calls his own are the ones who fed the hungry and welcomed the stranger without expecting anything in return. The sheep is the one willing to be led by God. The goat is the contrast. The “or” between them is a question we ask of ourselves. It is not a label for anyone who walks through the door.

Mission

The mission

Belong before you believe.

The table is open to anyone in Austin: people who are hungry, people who are tired, people who are not sure what they believe. The food is how we say welcome. What we hope people find when they stay is that they are being fed spiritually, physically, and emotionally, through the mercy and goodness of God.

Who it’s for

The next generation of believers.

Children, teens, and young adults are our particular concern, and the table is open to anyone in Austin who is hungry. It is hard to focus in school when you are hungry. It is just as hard to focus on the word of God. We want to take that one worry off the table, so a young person can sit down and be fully present for the message and the experience God has for them.

The vision

A place to eat, sit, and worship.

Our long-term hope is a permanent place in Austin that is open to anyone: somewhere to eat, to sit for as long as you need, and to worship. On Saturdays, we hope to open it to children, teens, and young adults for homework help, tutoring, and test preparation, with a hot breakfast and lunch.

From the founder

I’m Monique, the founder of Mt. 25:35 Ministry. God has shown me mercy in my own life, and I want that to shape how I care for others. I’m starting with food, with a particular concern for the next generation of believers: children, teens, and young adults. My hope is to build a place where people can eat, be welcomed, and experience God’s love without having to prove they belong.
